what is yakisugi?
In Japan, Yakisugi is wood burnt according to the ancestral method of Shou Sugi Ban.
Once the combustion process is complete, the wood will double its life expectancy, sometimes exceeding 80 years. It will also require little or no maintenance throughout its lifespan and will be more resistant to fire, insects, and rot.
Environmentally speaking, Yakisugi is a very interesting choice being a renewable, biodegradable, sustainable material that requires no use of dye or other chemicals.
