The products used for our scandinavian finishes come directly from sweden, and use pine tar as the base for the best protection. Pine tar serves as a natural protector once applied on wood. it is made to penetrate it, instead of simply coating it.

The tar is extracted from the pine using a traditional swedish method consisting of covering the wood with soil and burning it slowly in a ditch. This allows the tar to be extracted without being burnt or spoiled. Natural pigments are then added to give a layer of uv protection to the final product.

For over 1000 years, pine tar as been known to be a natural wood protector all over europe. It was even used by the vikings to protect their boats' hull!
